Description
Ken Winslade is a valuable member of the community of New Westminster, British Columbia. Ken began his career in the 1950s as a teacher, was later hired as the Parks and Recreation Administrator for the city, and eventually worked his way up to City Administrator until his retirement in 2003. Ken played professional basketball for the University of British Columbia in his college years, and was involved in sport and recreation from a young age. In this interview, Ken discusses his role in the 1973 Canada Games in Burnaby/New Westminster, British Columbia in his role as the parks and recreation administrator. Ken also discusses attitudes towards youth sport in general at this time, and the professionalization of sport he has seen over time.
